Young Bagpiper Wearing a Lion’s Cap

Framed under glass with a passe-partout.
The head is covered with a lion’s cap and turned to the right. The left hand grasps the blowpipe of the bagpipes. The drawing is based on a detail from Pietro da Cortona’s (1596–1669) painting in the Salon de Mars at the Palazzo Pitti, Florence. The initial attribution to Watteau was made by Jacques Mathey.

Der Kopf mit einer Löwenhaube bedeckt, nach rechts gewandt. Die linke Hand ergreift das Ansatzrohr des Dudelsacks. Die Zeichnung entstand nach einem Ausschnitt eines Gemäldes des Salon de Mars im Palazzo Pitti, Florenz, von Pietro da Cortona (1596 - 1669). Die Erstzuschreibung an den Künstler Watteau erfolgte durch Jacques Mathey.
